angela piro

Angela Piro, a Massachusetts native, is a mixed media artist whose art is a dialogue between the seen and the unseen. She resides at Arcosanti and there she manages the ceramics department. Angela’s artistic practice is an embodiment of art that is alive. Her practice changed dimensions when she decided to repurpose her toxic paint waste. What began as an environmental choice blossomed into a distinctive creative process, transforming dried paint tray peels into vibrant 3D textures. Her work, tactile and alive, challenges traditional boundaries and invites viewers to experience art in a new and interactive way.

My work is born from a fascination with texture and the unexpected beauty found in discarded materials. Through experimentation I developed my own technique where I build paint on objects with acrylics, wait for them to dry, peel them off, and reassemble them onto the canvas. This process breathes a new life into what would have been waste and allows the past and present to meet. I harness a range of tools such as piping bags, brushes, knives, hot glue, paint trays and objects with interesting shapes and textures to peel from. Dried paint peels and heavy texture acrylic are my primary mediums. I also utilize found objects, whatever comes into my hands, all to serve and sculpt the concepts from my imagination.
